Tomato

Famous for its exquisite taste and precious ingredients. It is fruit but we integrated it in vegetables. With origin from Latin America, was naturalized Mediterranean and became the Queen of the Greek cuisine.

The tomato, red, juicy and delicious, fits perfectly in every Greek dish, either raw with the rich juices or cooked in delicious recipes that showcase its aroma. Apart from the tasty treat that gives us, the tomato is valuable for our health as it contains vitamins A and C, while it effectively enhances the body's defense, thanks to increased antioxidant activity.

The fruit, also called tomato, is spherical or oblong, and when matures is juicy and has a bright red color. The red color is because it contains the pigment lycopene.

Lycopene is an antioxidant substance contained in large quantities in tomato. It is a phytochemical compound that exhibits strong antioxidant activity (stronger than beta-carotene) and protects the body from damage caused by free radicals.

Lycopene is not lost when boiling, in contrast, its concentration is much higher in the standard tomato products, such as slightly concentrated tomato juice and tomato paste.

For the most part consists of water and organic substances. It has few calories and for that reason is suitable for weight loss.

Tomato is rich in:

Lycopene, has an antioxidant and anticancer activity.

Vitamin C, which boosts the body's defense.

Folic acid, which is necessary for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the body's cells.
